Challenger Learning Center

Journey of Exploration

Return to the Moon or Voyage to Mars in our interactive space mission simulator!

The Challenger Learning Center transforms you into a scientist, engineer, or researcher on a simulated space mission, complete with a Mission Control and Spacecraft. From the moment of lift-off to the completion of the mission, all participants become members of a team working to complete mission objectives as both mission controllers and astronauts.

Teamwork

The simulation creates a cooperative learning atmosphere underscored by teamwork, communication, problem-solving, and critical thinking. Crew members must solve real-life problems using math, science, and technology to successfully complete their mission. Each team is critical, and the success of the mission is dependent upon their work!

Important to Note

  • Limited to participants in 5th grade and older, and group sizes of 16-34.

  • Two-hour long mission includes pre-brief instructions and assignments.

  • A CREW MANIFEST must be completed and submitted prior to the start of your mission.

About the Challenger Center

In the aftermath of the Challenger accident in 1986, the crew’s families came together, firmly committed to the belief that they must carry on the spirit of their loved ones by continuing the Challenger crew’s educational mission. Their efforts resulted in the creation of Challenger Center for Space Science Education.
