The activities listed below are adapted from ones we’ve done in our field trips, outreach events, summer camps and weekend workshops. They have been modified for better at-home usage! They vary in subject matter, age and materials - but each activity will provide suggestions for tweaking the activity for different ages, just in case there are students from multiple grade levels at home!

Each activity also includes what we call a Kindling Question - something we hope sparks a conversations or further questioning around the topic.

We will continue to upload new activities, so keep checking back!

We will compare top-down photos of two plants (one consistently watered and one not) to spot visual differences between the plants over a span of a week.

Color Changing Flowers

Change the color of a flower’s petals by using food coloring.

Test what circumstances and variables affect how quickly sugar dissolves in water.

Egg Shaker Maraca

We will be creating our own maracas using materials found at home.

Paper Airplane Aerodynamics

Using paper airplanes, modify the plane’s wing and change its weight to see how it affects how far it can fly.

Shadow Tracking

Age Level: 2-5

We will be tracing our own shadows and see how they change throughout the day.

Age Level: 4+

Create your own water filtration system using items you may have around your home.
